PATEK PHILIPPE AQUANAUT REF. 5060A WITH ORIGINAL RETAILER DISPLAY
When the Aquanaut was launched in 1998, the world was shocked to see Patek Philippe’s bold leap into the future at the cusp of the 21st century. Based on the Nautilus design, the Aquanaut was designed to attract a new, younger clientele for Patek Philippe. The experiment ‘failed’ in that established, older Patek clients purchased all the limited run, leaving most of the new collectors without a chance to enjoy this entry level watch. The rest is history and to this day the Aquanaut models are some of the most sought-after watches in the world. It all began with the steel Aquanaut ref. 5060A which was officially launched as the “Nautilus-Aquanaut”. Check out the buckle of a ref. 5060A with an original clasp, and you might be surprised to learn it says “Nautilus” and not Aquanaut which is absolutely correct. It is only with the launch of the 5066A later in 1998 that the word Aquanaut can be found on the clasps. This fine example is accompanied by a factory original retailer display flaunting the technical brilliance of the new reference.
