Patek Philippe 18K yellow gold rectangular wristwatch made for Juwelier Ranft, a limited edition of 30 examples created to celebrate the retailer’s 30th anniversary, 1964–1994
The ref. 5010J is one of the purest expressions of the modern Gondolo, a reference that draws on Patek Philippe’s long tradition of elegant rectangular watches while embracing the clean lines of late 20th-century design. Produced from 1993-2005, the model is distinguished by its stepped rectangular case, refined proportions, and manually wound caliber 215, a movement prized for its slimness and reliability.
This watch was part of a limited edition commissioned by Patek Philippe for Juwelier Ranft to celebrate the Salzburg retailer’s 30th anniversary, 1964–1994, and this watch is number 16 of only 30 examples. That anniversary link gives the watch an added layer of charm and rarity, combining the timeless appeal of the ref. 5010J with the desirability of a retailer-related commemorative edition. The dial configuartion for this limited edition is unique from all other regular production 5010s. It has a cream dial with applied arabic numerials with Aprior Swiss markings under the subsidiary seconds.
Founded in 1964, Juwelier Ranft became one of Salzburg’s best-known jewelers under Volker Ranft, whose shop was located at Makartplatz 3 beside the Hotel Bristol in the city’s Altstadt.
