The ref. 3587/1 is one of the most important and unconventional wristwatches Patek Philippe produced in the modern era. Launched at the dawn of quartz technology, it was fitted with the celebrated Beta 21 movement, the groundbreaking electronic caliber developed by a consortium of Swiss manufactures, including Patek Philippe, at the Centre Electronique Horloger in Neuchâtel. Introduced in 1970, the Beta 21 was the first Swiss analog quartz movement for wristwatches, making the ref. 3587/1 a landmark in both Patek Philippe history and the wider story of 20th-century watchmaking.
Just as striking as the movement is the watch’s design. With its oversized, cushion-shaped case, integrated bracelet, center seconds, and date display, the ref. 3587/1 has a bold, futuristic presence unlike anything else in the Patek Philippe canon. It is one of the largest wristwatches ever produced by Patek Philippe, with a case measuring approximately 43 mm wide. Rarely seen, it remains one of the most collectible expressions of the Beta 21 era.
