PATEK PHILIPPE YELLOW GOLD WRISTWATCH REF. 3593J
These 1970s automatics may be small in size (33 mm) but they are big in personality. The two-piece case of this ref. 3593J was made by the celebrated case maker Favre-Perret (the same case maker as the Nautilus). The sharp corners, multiple polished finishes, and architectural construction of this watch all add up to a big look once on your wrist.
The gilt dial of this watch, confirmed on the Extract from the Archives, was especially made by Stern Frères, and features a gilt color with painted roman numerals. The bold black hands make the time easy to read and give this watch an entirely different look from the more common silvered dials typically seen on refs. 3593.
The movement is a 28-255C, the Le-Coultre based caliber that was always used in the Nautilus. This workhorse automatic was the flattest and best quality of the self-winding calibers available in the 1970s. Finished to Patek Philippe’s high standards, the 28-255C allowed Patek to make thinner watches that could be placed within more ‘sporty’ references. The ref. 3593 was only in production from 1970-1973.
