The ref. 5053 was produced from 2001 – 2005. The beautiful case with its hinged back was inspired by the officers of the First World War who would strap their pocket watches to their wrists to save precious time when searching for the time. This ref. 5053G has aged to an exquisite patina, due in part to the fact that this 18K white gold wristwatch was not rhodium plated as is often the case with white gold pieces. Interestingly, the hinged case back prevented the use of rhodium plating by Patek Philippe with this reference. The distinctive silvered and grained dial with bold Breguet numerals has also aged to perfection.
