Watches and Accessories
The ref. 5111 is a watch not on many collectors’ radar but it deserves to be. It is one of the largest time only watches from the era, made in relatively small numbers, and was made with significant attention to detail highlighting Patek Philippe’s in-house case making capabilities. In a period marketing brochure for the ref. 5111, Patek Philippe states,
“Some periods in the history of design stand out as landmark aesthetic statements. We have recognized this quality in the spirit of Art Deco period, which we vividly recall in our Gondolo collection. We use this spirit as an opportunity to visit the deeply specialized craftsmanship required of the rectangular cases specified in the design.”
Interestingly, the case marks found on the inside of the ref. 5111 case reveal that these cases were indeed made in-house by Patek Philippe. These cases are made with such attention to detail and traditional craftsmanship that it can only be considered a statement piece. Produced only from 2004 – 2007, this tank-style Patek Philippe was offered in 18K yellow, pink, and white gold as well as platinum/rose combination. This 18K pink gold example is beautifully preserved and ready to wear.
