Watches and Accessories
Here we present a minute repeater from over 115 years ago that is a stunning example of early 20th century Patek Philippe watchmaking. The movement, case, and dial are all made to Patek’s highest standards and the result is a miniature opus to fine watchmaking that can be appreciated aesthetically as well as audibly. The stunning hand engraved gold Louis XV hands are detailed on the Extract from the Archives a well as the enamel dial with hand painted black enamel numerals with red 5 minute markers. The reverse of the case presents a beautifully engraved Brereton family coat of arms, and motto “Opitulante Deo” (“With the aid of God”) which features a muzzled bear flanked by an unmuzzled bear and a unicorn. According to family legend, generations after the family fought alongside William the Conqueror in 1066, the Brereton lord murdered his valet and was given a chance to repent without execution. The king’s doom was: if the Brereton lord could make a muzzle in order to stop a bear from killing him, his life would be spared. After working tirelessly for 3 days, the muzzle was made, and the lord succeeded in his quest, not only saving his life, but also creating a story that would be memorialized on this watch forever.
