PATEK PHILIPPE ‘FUTURISTE’ POCKET WATCH, REF. 798J
Patek Philippe 18K yellow gold hand engraved pocket watch, made in 1962 and sold in 1963
Watches and Accessories
The ref. 798J was designed by the brilliant Gilbert Albert. Inspired by nature, fueled by a futuristic vision of the evolving role of the pocket watch in the pre-quartz era, the ref. 798J is a relatively unknown mid-century masterpiece. Less than one hundred examples are thought to have been made and only eight are known to exist today.
This particular ref. 798J is the earliest known example to have surfaced. The gold dials for these works of art were made by Stern Frères, the cases by Wenger (Keymark 1) and the movement used was the elegant caliber 23-300.
