A landmark design in the history of watchmaking, this well-preserved example features its integrated mesh bracelet (sized for a 7 inch diameter wrist) and a highly desirable gold dial, giving the watch a bold, heavy, monochromatic presence on the wrist. The ref. 3587/1 is a true collector’s watch: historically important, unmistakably 1970s, and remarkably wearable today.
The two-piece case of the ref. 3587/1 were made by Atelier Réunis, identified by casemaker mark 28. Large in scale, these were the biggest wristwatches made by Patek Philippe in the 20th century, and it was not until the dawn of the 21st century that we began seeing cases of this size and larger from the manufacture. Atelier Réunis made some of the most important cases for Patek Philippe during this period, and it is an incredible footnote to history that the casemaker was located in the same Geneva building where the Patek Philippe Museum is now housed.
