A PATEK PHILIPPE SILVER WATCH WITH BREGUET NUMERALS
The ref. 738 identified as deck chronometers were made by Patek Philippe in the 1930s and 1940s. Numerous case and dial configurations were ‘issued’ with this reference number and a wide variety of designs can be found within the ‘738 family’. However, the presently offered example is the only known ref. 738 with engraved and enameled Breguet numerals. Confirmed by the Extract from the Archives, this unusual dial is a testament to the brilliance of Stern Frères dial making of the era. A close look reveals the raised gold indexes seen every 5 minutes and the matching gold pomme hands. No doubt, this is an homage to the aesthetic of Abraham Louis Breguet’s original work. Even the case construction of this example has an Empire-style complete with an aesthetically pleasing round pendant.
For the collector of rare silver Patek Philippe watches, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a bit of history in a rare, possibly even unique, timepiece.
