PATEK PHILIPPE ROSE GOLD TIME ONLY WITH UNUSUAL LUGS, REF. 1595R
The ref. 1595 is a rarely seen reference and is easily recognized by its unusual form lugs. Nicknamed the “Giraffa” by Italian collectors for its long lugs, it is easy to appreciate the resemblance to the neck of a giraffe. The case for this reference was made by Eggly (master key mark 23) and is quite large for a vintage Patek Philippe at 35 mm and wears even larger on the wrist with the prominent lugs. The first series of the ref. 1595 was made with subsidiary seconds as we see here and the second series features center seconds. It is quite unusual to find a rose gold first series example and only 13 are known to exist. Of the known examples, most are found with silvered dials but this example features the attractive and rarely seen rose gold colored dial that collectors call ‘pink on pink’ when combined with a rose gold case. This rose dial features applied rose gold batons alternating with pyramid batons and a rose gold Roman numeral 12. Made by Stern Frères for Patek Philippe, this beautiful dial has the added distinction of being signed Gobbi, Milano, the celebrated Italian retailer. The unrestored condition of the dial, case and movement are quite impressive for a watch from this period and the two crisp hallmarks on the case are an exclamation point of the quality of this exceptional timepiece.
