PATEK PHILIPPE PILOT CALATRAVA REF. 5522A

At the New York “Art of Watchmaking” exhibition in 2017, the horological world came together to celebrate all things Patek Philippe and collectors jockeyed for position to receive an allocation for the one of the limited edition watches released to celebrate the event. The ref. 5522A was one of the star releases of the show and the 600 examples of the limited edition quickly became the time-only watch of choice for the global watch community. The ref. 5522A was and remains popular for its attractive aesthetic, and with the same blue lacquer dial and aesthetic we saw with the ref. 5524G travel time. Interestingly, the hour and minute hands were made in blued steel and the seconds hand made from aluminum with a lume coating. Made with the self-winding caliber 324, it is notable that the ref. 5522A has no date. In fact this is the first time the caliber 324 was utilized in a watch without the date on the dial. Perhaps this reference’s size, simplicity, and quality are what make it a fan favourite.
