The ref. 3574A represents one of Patek Philippe’s most distinctive stainless steel dress watches of the 1970s. Introduced during a transitional moment in the company’s history, the ref. 3574 was produced in very limited numbers, and its stainless steel execution made it a true outlier in a collection largely defined by precious metals. Only 22 steel examples are known to presently exist and less than half with the special Calatrava dial.
This extremely rare Calatrava cross–embossed dial features a striking decorative treatment that elevates the model far beyond its minimalist origins. The textured dial surface is branded in a way that is surprisingly bold for the 1970s – fearless in self promotion and and branding, a humble brag in the midst of the quartz revolution.
Inside, the watch is powered by the ultra-thin, manual caliber 23-300 PM, a celebrated movement known for its precision and elegant construction. Measuring approximately 35 x 40 mm, the stainless steel case gives the ref. 3574A a modern, sporty edge while remaining resolutely refined.
Collectability Says:
“The ref. 3574A is already a rare reference in stainless steel, but when paired with the seldom-seen Calatrava cross–embossed dial, it becomes an exceptional collector’s prize. Few watches capture Patek Philippe’s willingness to experiment with both materials and design and this further set Patek Philippe above the competition in the dark days of the Quartz Revolution.”
