The launch of the Patek Philippe Aquanaut in 1998 marked a bold step into the future for the brand, as it sought to attract a younger clientele at the threshold of the 21st century. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Nautilus design, the Aquanaut was intended to serve as a more modern, entry-level offering for new collectors. However, the experiment did not achieve the anticipated results, as established, older Patek Philippe clientele quickly purchased the limited-run models, leaving the intended younger audience with few opportunities to acquire one. Despite this initial setback, the Aquanaut has since become one of the most sought-after timepieces in the world. The ref. 5066A was launched in 1997 and made until 2006.
