PATEK PHILIPPE PLATINUM JUMBO ELLIPSE RETAILED BY TIFFANY & CO. REF. 5738P
It is no secret that Collectability cannot get enough Patek Philippe Ellipse watches to satisfy the demand. And this one is a modern favorite — the ‘Jumbo’ ref. 5738P. Making a rare watch even more rare, this example was retailed by Tiffany & Co.
The Patek Philippe Ellipse family was ‘born’ in 1968 and has been a celebrated icon of Patek Philippe ever since. Designed after the Golden Section that was discovered by ancient Greek mathematicians, the ‘divine’ proportion of the ratio 1 to 1.6181 is the founding design principle seen in art, architecture and nature. This model is the modern interpretation of the Ellipse. The jumbo-sized ref. 5738P has been in the line since 2008 and features a platinum case with the classic, 18K blued gold dial. Fitted with an automatic caliber 240, this massive watch is comfortable to wear as a dress watch, or with jeans. Only a handful of platinum ref. 5738P were stamped Tiffany & Co. and the presently offered example is not stamped Tiffany & Co. as is correct for an example from 2021. Patek Philippe does not currently allow platinum ref. 5738P’s to be stamped due to the risk of opening the platinum case to stamp it. However, you still find current production rose gold examples stamped Tiffany (current retail price 35,000 USD). The current suggested retail price of the platinum ref. 5738P is 57,000 USD. This near mint example is complete with box and papers as well as its Tiffany & Co. outer box.
