Patek Philippe Ref. 2457J signed Tiffany & Co.
The ref. 2457 was launched in 1949 to replace the famous ref. 96. This example, made in the first year of ref. 2457 production, features the celebrated Tiffany & Co. signature. The dial has the Breguet numerals confirmed as being made by none other than Stern Frères. The case is made by Antoine Gerlach, as indicated by the casemaker key number 4.
This Tiffany & Co. ref. 2457 shows nicely, but upon close inspection there are signs of cleaning. The light vertical striations and small loss to the ‘Tiffany & Co.’ signature further confirm this. The ‘SWISS’ missing under 6 o’clock is also a sign that the dial was cleaned in the past. The HOX import code is on the balance cock, as expected for a Tiffany & Co. watch. The plates and screws are heavily oxidized with signs of multiple use. If you love barn finds, this watch is for you and a full restoration may be carefully considered.
Overall, the case is well-preserved for a 70-year-old piece, but it does show signs of polishing throughout and light dings and scratches. The hallmark on the side of the case is strong, while a second hallmark behind one of the lugs is strong and complete with Tiffany & Co. hand-etched inventory numbers. Inside the case back, over six repair marks/dates indicate a life well lived.
