PATEK PHILIPPE REF. 10 YELLOW GOLD RECTANGULAR WRISTWATCH
This watch is just shy of 100 years old yet it still retains its timeless elegance. As one of the earliest wristwatches produced by Patek Philippe, the ref. 10 entered the line in 1917 and stayed until 1932. The large size dials were a perfect canvas for bold designs. Made by Stern Frères, the dials typically featured applied gold Breguet numerals, exploded printed numerals, and most famously, painted luminescent Arabic numerals such as on the timepiece offered here. The lume on the beautifully preserved gilt dial is original, a true rarity for its age. In addition, this watch remains serviced sealed after a Patek Philippe overhaul.
The case of the ref 10 or ‘modèle 10’ as it was called at the time, featured a large two-piece case that slightly curved for the contour of the wrist. The elegant design effortlessly presented the time boldly in pure ‘Roaring Twenties’ style. The great majority of the refs. 10 were sent to the American and South American markets and are an exciting find for collectors. This example was originally retailed by Bailey, Banks & Biddle in Philadelphia.
