PATEK PHILIPPE RECTANGULAR PLATINUM WRISTWATCH
This late 1930s platinum rectangular watch was originally made for the US market as indicated by the PXP mark seen on the movement. The elegant case was made by Weber & Cie in Geneva for Patek Philippe. It is this case style that later inspired the 2006 limited edition ref. 5105P made in 100 examples. The family of references inspired by this watch can be found in the references 417, 486, 490, 491, 492 and 514. Of this entire series from the 1930s and 1940s, only one platinum example is known (a ref. 514) until the discovery of the presently offered platinum example. This watch is possibly unique and may predate the series it inspired. We anxiously await the Extract from the Archives from Geneva to learn more about the exact date of sale and whether or not this watch was born with or without a reference number.
