Patek Philippe PERPETUAL CALENDAR POCKET WATCH ‘RARE DIAL VARIANT’ REF. 725J
This is the second ref. 725 to be offered by Collectability and it features a dial never before seen outside of the Patek Philippe Museum in Geneva. This example has no perpetual indications on the dial within the month indicator, and it features applied baton numerals rather than Arabic numerals. The overall appeal is minimalistic, and gives the watch an entirely different look than typical ref. 725s.
The ref. 725 was the design inspiration for a long line of Patek Philippe perpetual calendars and perpetual calendar chronographs, and the early examples closely resemble the ref. 1518. This ref. 725 however, represents a significant departure from the design aesthetic of the 1950s and gives a more modern, clean look that that follows the same design lineage of the ref. 1518, through the various series of ref. 2499s.
Preserved remarkably well and fresh to market, this ref. 725 gives the opportunity to own a perpetual calendar from the same hands that made the golden era ref. 1518s and ref. 2499s that every collector covets today for just a fraction of the price. Interestingly, ref. 725s are much rarer than both ref. 1518s and ref. 2499s, with fewer than a hundred ref. 725s made in all configurations.
