FULL SET PATEK PHILIPPE LIMITED EDITION SAATCHI LONDON EDITION REF. 3970EP-046
The ref. 3970 was launched in 1986 replacing the legendary ref. 2499 as Patek Philippe’s flagship perpetual calendar chronograph. Utilizing a Patek Philippe finished Lemania caliber, the ref. 3970 remained in production for almost 20 years.
In 2015, Patek Philippe hosted the Watch Art Grand Exhibition in London’s Saatchi Gallery to celebrate the brand’s 175th anniversary. Over 42,000 people visited the 12 day exhibition to see historical pieces, current production pieces, and an exclusive offering of limited editions made especially in honor of the exhibition. Most notably for the collecting community, the beloved Ref. 3970 was brought back as a limited edition after over a decade since it was discontinued and replaced by the 5970. It is believed that only 5 pieces were made in each case metal with special dials as we see here with this Ref. 3970EP-046 with a black dial, Breguet numeral at 12 and the remaining markers as applied dots. Interestingly, this particular piece was sold by the Patek Philippe Salon in Geneva in 2016 making it one of the last 3970s ever sold by Patek Philippe.
