This may be one of the most surprising examples of an unusual watch in Bittel’s collection — however when one reads the ad copy that he wrote in 1989 one begins to understand the importance of this watch to him, as well as Patek Philippe at the time. The marketing material from the time stated “Women of distinction traditionally wore a valuable and beautifully made watch on the lapel of their finest dress… A precious symbol of esteem, worn with pride. To be noticed without being noticeable; it’s delicate balance. To achieve it is to understand the art of understatement, to feel confident in your perfect taste. Patek Philipe lapel watches bestow the dignity and poise that are the hallmarks of an object of rare quality.”
In celebration of Patek Philippe’s 150th anniversary, the “Les Imperiales” collection was unlike anything the world had seen for decades and here we are decades later and only now collectors are realizing that these are some of the rarest of all limited edition Patek Philippe watches.
