PATEK PHILIPPE YELLOW GOLD SELF-WINDING CALATRAVA, REF. 5000J
At Collectability, we are constantly in the pursuit of acquiring the best and rarest examples of a given category and not chasing trends. We are often asked “what Patek ‘sleeper references’ should I be considering these days?” Within the time only calibers, the ref. 5000 is always in our top 10 suggestion list. This reference was made from 1992-2002 and is full of lore and legend but the facts speak for themselves. This reference was first launched in 1992 in a limited run of 1000 examples in 18K white gold and then an additional run of 900 pieces were made in 18K yellow gold in the mid-1990s. It proved so popular that additional runs were made during the late 90s, but less than 5000 examples are believed to have been made during the entire run of the reference in all colors (yellow, white, and rose). The black sector dial on the yellow gold version is perhaps the most iconic and the eccentric subsidiary seconds offers an almost vintage, automotive appeal — probably not a coincidence.
