This simple, understated pocket watch is as attractive to the eye today as it was in 1895. The two-piece dial is enamel with Roman numerals and minutes divided into 5 minute intervals; gold hands have marked the passage of time for over a century — and still counting. The caseback is engraved with a crest indicating the original owner was a member of the Order of the Ermine, a chivalric order created in 1464 by King Ferdinand of Naples. Their motto, also engraved on the watch, is “Malo mori quam foedari“, translated as, “I would rather die than be dishonored”.
