PATEK PHILIPPE YELLOW GOLD ELLIPSE WRISTWATCH WITH ‘ICE BLUE’ DIAL, REF. 3548J
Introduced in 1967, the ref. 3548 was the part of the first generation of Ellipse watches ever made and would later become popularized in the 1970s with the iconic Patek Philippe ad campaign: “The $1700 Trust Fund”. The ref. 3548 was made initially by the case maker Baugartner and featured the impressively accurate and elegant, ultra-thin caliber 23-300. Made in 18K yellow or white gold, these references introduced the elliptical shape to the Patek Philippe collection, and the ref. 3548 is the truest form of the Ellipse that started it all. While this reference usually features the legendary blued gold dial, this example, due to patination over time presents a striking “Ice Blue” dial, aged to perfection.
