PATEK PHILIPPE YELLOW GOLD SELF-WINDING ELLIPSE
The Patek Philippe Ellipse was ‘born’ in 1968 and has been a celebrated icon of Patek Philippe ever since. Its design is inspired by the Golden Section, the ‘divine’ proportion of the ratio 1 to 1.6181 which is the founding design principle seen in art, architecture and nature.
The first examples of the famed Ref. 3738 were launched in 1978. It was not util 1984 that we see the first (and more familiar) Ref. 3738/100J. This example features a two-tone matte champagne sigma dial with Roman numerals and yellow gold gold indices. It is a dial that gives this Ellipse reference a completely new aesthetic. And for those of you interested in a 3738J with the classic blue dial, you’re in luck – the presently offered example features a second dial that we are happy to swap for you upon request.
